Tinker Air Base repairs in jeopardy over storm damage to bases in Nebraska and Florida

Severe flooding in Nebraska has added to monumental storm damage to U.S. Air Force bases as the Air Force needs $5 billion over three years to repair bases. And repairs to an Oklahoma air base are in jeopardy as a result.

Bases in Nebraska and Florida were severely damaged by weather in the past six months. Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska is home to certain spy planes and air commands, according to a report by Defense One.

The Air Force warns if it doesn’t get some immediate funding from Congress, then funding for 61 projects in 18 states, including some at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma could be affected.

The projects at Tinker AFB include:

Tinker OK REPAIR HVAC SYSTEM MAIN FIRE STATION, B117
Tinker OK REPAIR HVAC SERVING TELECOM FACILITY B3001G
Tinker OK REPAIR SURFACE GRADE AT CDC EAST, B3904
Tinker OK REPAIR SURFACE GRADE CDC SOUTH, B1101 (RAC4)

A repair project at the McConnel Air Base in Wichita, Kansas could also be in jeopardy.

“We desperately need the supplemental funding to recover from the natural disasters that hammered Tyndall and Offutt,” Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson said Wednesday at Heritage Foundation event in Washington. “There are other decisions we’ll have to make if we don’t [have supplemental funding] by May or June. These are just the first decisions that we had to make yesterday…61 projects in 18 states are not going to happen because we have not gotten a disaster supplemental for Tyndall.”
