Powerful winds leave their trail of damage across Oklahoma and other states

Oklahomans endured one of their windiest days in some time as winds on Wednesday reached 73 miles an hour in Gage.

Power outages were reported and as of Thursday morning, 1,000 customers of OGE were still without power. Wind gusts of 60 were common throughout the state.

But they were nothing compared to the 101 mph recorded at San Augustin Pass, northeast of Las Cruces, New Mexico. And just west of the Texas-New Mexico border northeast of Tucumcari, 26 cars of a freight train were blown off a trestle.

No one was injured in the incident which was close to the town of Logan, New Mexico and north of Interstate 40.
Wind damage was reported in Oklahoma as well including a fire station in Del City where part of the roof was ripped off by sustained winds.
Winds of nearly 100 miles an hour were also recorded Wednesday at the Denver International Airport. Combined with the snowfall, it created a virtual white out forcing a shutdown of the airport runways.
