Light quakes shake areas near Edmond and Stillwater

 

Light earthquake activity was reported over the weekend between Edmond and Stillwater in Oklahoma. The largest of the two quakes registered 3.0 magnitude according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first quake measured 2.1 magnitude and occurred Saturday morning shortly before 9 o’clock. Its epicenter was about 4 miles from Anderson or 23 miles southeast of Stillwater.

The USGS reported the quake had a depth of about 3 miles.

The second quake was stronger and measured 3.0 magnitude. It was recorded Saturday night at about 10 minutes before midnight.

The quake’s epicenter was 7.5 miles northwest of Edmond at a depth of about 3 miles.

Both quakes happened in areas where there is oilfield activity including numerous wastewater disposal wells monitored by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.
