Rig count dropped in U.S. in past week and in Oklahoma

The number of oil and gas rigs in Oklahoma and across the U.S. dropped in the past week. Oklahoma’s count slid 4 rigs to 122 compared to 117 working rigs reported a year ago.

Nationally, the count plunged 14 to 1,045. The number of oil rigs dropped 15 to 847 while the number of gas rigs increased one to reach 198.

The U.S. rig count is still 99 higher than a year ago when there were 946 working rigs. The higher count includes 82 more oil rigs and 17 more gas rigs.

The nation’s offshore rig count dropped by one to 19.

Oklahoma’s count of 122 compares to 514 in Texas where the count slid by three according to figures released by the Baker Hughes Co. Colorado remained at 35 rigs and Louisiana’s count dropped by one to 62.

The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita, Kansas indicated the rig count in  Kansas slid by 3 to 31. A year ago, there were 33 active rigs in Kansas.

New Mexico remained at 112 while North Dakota added one to reach 58. Wyoming remained at 33 in the past week.

Of the oil plays, the Woodfords in Oklahoma hit 8 after dropping one working rig. The Eagle Ford in Texas remained at 81 while the Permian in Texas and New Mexico dropped by three to reach 481. The Mississippian in Oklahoma and Kansas added 4 rigs to hit 10. The Granite Wash in Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle dropped 3 to 5.
