Oil and gas rig counts slipped in Oklahoma and the U.S.

Oil and gas rig counts fell across the U.S. and in Oklahoma in the past week according to the latest figures from Baker Hughes Co. and the Red Top Rig Report.

Nationally, the count dropped by four to reach 1,047 while the number of oil-drilling rigs dropped by 4 to 853 and the number of gas drilling rigs was unchanged at 194. The U.S. count was still 69 higher than a year ago when there was 978 active drilling rigs. The latest count shows the U.S. is still higher by 54 oil rigs and 15 gas rigs.

The offshore count in the past week dropped by two to reach 19.

Oklahoma’s count fell by two to 117 while the Texas count dropped by one to 508. Colorado slipped by one to reach 34 wile Kansas dropped four rigs to 29. New Mexico declined by one to 108 while the number of oil and gas rigs in North Dakota remained at 57.

The count in Wyoming remained t 37.

Of the oil plays, the number of rigs in Oklahoma’s Woodfords remained at 10 while the Mississippian was constant at 10 rigs.

The Granite Wash in northwest Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle saw an increase of one to reach 5 working rigs. The Permian Basin remained at 473 while the Eagle Ford stayed at 82. The D-J Niobrara in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming grew by on e to hit 32. The Marcellus added one to hit 62 working rigs.
