Rig counts rebound nationally but remain steady in Oklahoma

While the number of oil and gas rigs drilling for new energy in Oklahoma remained the same in the past week, the national count gained, offsetting a large drop in the previous week.

Oklahoma’s count remained at 126 while the national count increased by 9 to reach 1,059 working oil and gas rigs. The national count includes 10 more oil rigs to reach 862 while the number of gas rigs dropped one to 197. The U.S. count is still 112 higher than the 947 reported a year ago.

The count includes 103 more oil rigs from a year ago and 9 more gas rigs. The number of offshore rigs increased one in the past week to reach 20.

Oklahoma’s count  of 126 compares to 517 in Texas where the number slipped by four, according to figures released by Baker Hughes Co. Colorado reported an increase of one to 35 while Louisiana added 2 to hit 63.

According to the Red Top Rig Report from the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita, the number of rigs in Kansas grew by one to reach 34.

New Mexico’s count increased by four to reach 112 while North Dakota added 3 to hit 57. Wyoming’s count slipped by one to 33.

The Woodford oil plays in Oklahoma remained at 9 while the D-J Niobrara in Colorado and Wyoming stayed at 31. The Eagle Ford remained at 81 while Oklahoma’s Granite Wash continued at 8 working rigs. The Mississippian in Oklahoma stayed at 6 rigs while the Permian Basin added 3 to reach 484. The Williston grew by 2 to 58.
