Political division in Oklahoma’s US House delegation shown in vote this week

Oklahoma’s congressional delegation in the U.S. House showed its political division this week when the House failed to pass a measure pressuring Republicans to reopen closed agencies including the EPA and the Interior Department.

It was to have been a short-term funding bill to reopen nine federal departments through Feb. 1 but H.J. Res. 27 failed to get a two-thirds majority and died on a 237-187 vote.

Oklahoma’s lone Democrat, new Rep. Kendra Horn sided with her Democratic party led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Republicans Tom Cole, Kevin Hern, the new Representative from Tulsa, Frank Lucas and Markwayne Mullin were among the 187 against it.
