Congressional hearings on federal energy management and the Fuels Act to be held this week

Two subcommittees of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee have scheduled hearings for this week.

Oklahoma congressman Markwayne Mullin and others on the Subcommittee on Energy will hold a hearing Wednesday, Dec. 12 on “Public Private Partnerships for Federal Energy Management.” It will begin at 10:15 a.m. eastern time.

Historically, the federal government has used public-private partnerships to guarantee energy goals are met, and that federal property is properly managed. Encouraging these partnerships is essential to ensuring that government facilities operate as effectively and efficiently as possible. By promoting decreases in energy consumption in federal buildings, this can drastically reduce costs to the federal government.

The Subcommittee on Environment will holding a hearing Tuesday, Dec. 11 10 a.m. eastern time on “The 21st Century Transportation Fuels Act.”  Members are considering a proposed reshaping of the federal transportation fuel policies.

“This draft legislation is the culmination of three stakeholder roundtables, five subcommittee hearings, and numerous other meetings this Congress,”said Subcommittee chairman, Rep. John Shimkus of Illinois. “By comprehensively approaching federal transportation fuel policies, the draft seeks to transition from the Renewable Fuel Standard to a performance-based high-octane standard for vehicles of the future, remove barriers that limit consumer choices at the pump, and bring greater certainty to the industries affected by those policies.
