Gasoline prices drop in OKC and Tulsa but hit nearly $3 average in northwest Oklahoma

Cheaper prices are seen at the gas pumps in Oklahoma City and Tulsa according to GasBuddy’s latest report.

Gasoline prices in Oklahoma City have fallen 7.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.54/g  as of Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 669 stations in Oklahoma City. This compares with the national average that has fallen 2.6 cents per gallon versus last week to $2.88/g, according to GasBuddy.

Average gasoline prices on October 15 in Oklahoma City have ranged widely over the last five years:
$2.16/g in 2017, $1.98/g in 2016, $2.25/g in 2015, $2.89/g in 2014 and $3.12/g in 2013.

Including the change locally during the past week, prices yesterday were 38.7 cents per gallon higher than a year ago and are 1.1 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has increased 2.6 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 42.5 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

Areas near Oklahoma City and their current gas price climate:
Tulsa- $2.59/g, down 8.2 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.67/g.
Wichita- $2.66/g, down 7.7 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.74/g.
Oklahoma- $2.66/g, down 3.1 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.69/g.

“The last week has seen a flurry of events to keep an eye on, while the recent drop in oil prices materialized at pumps across the country, but no where have the declines been as large as Great Lakes states,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “Great Lakes states have wreaked havoc on the national average, sending it down considerably as stations there have passed along the recent drop in oil prices relatively quickly. ”

AAA Oklahoma listed the state’s average at $2.68 a gallon while gasoline prices in the northwest corner are up to $2.99 a gallon in Ellis County where Shattuck is the largest city.The average has hit $2.87 in Buffalo and $2.88 in Alva.

Oklahoma’s cheapest averages are $2.57 a gallon in Oklahoma City and Stilwell located next to the Arkansas state line.
