Gas line leak forced evacuations near Healdton

A large natural gas line leak near the southern Oklahoma town of Healdton Friday night forced the evacuation of several nearby homes. But by Saturday morning, the line owned by Avalon Oil and Gas Inc. had been capped.

Residents were told they could return to their homes, according to a spokeswoman with the Carter County sheriff’s office in Ardmore.

The leak forced sheriff’s officers and Healdton firefighters to close several roads near the leak that was about one-half mile north of Oil City Road and Woodland Road.

Avalon Oil and Gas is a company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and entered the Oklahoma market when it purchased oil and gas producing properties in the state in 2012.
