Fight brews over proposed wastewater disposal well near Okarche

Some Canadian County  residents are fighting a proposed wastewater disposal well near their homes.  They’re asking the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to deny the request by H2OK, LLC of Marble Falls, Texas.

The residents live along Banner Road and state highway 3 southeast of Okarche and were recently notified of the proposed well by a law firm representing their landlord, Silva Holdings LLC of Okarche. Silva Holdings operates a mobile home court along the highway.

Residents told the Yukon Progress they fear the well will contaminate their water wells, create earthquakes in the area and add to heavy truck traffic.

“Everyone needs to know about this because of the earthquakes,” Betty Egender told the Progress. “They have earthquakes all the time in Crescent now.”

The Corporation Commission plans a hearing on Nov. 28 where an administrative law judge will hear arguments on the request.

Betty Egender and her husband are attempting to notify residents in the area to protest the well.

“We’ve passed out about 20 pamphlets today to people all along Banner road,” said Selby Egender.

The Egenders are hoping
