Did 2016 recession get Trump elected?

Did a mini-recession two years ago that sent oil and ag prices tumbling play more of a role in the election of Donald Trump as President than some speculators want to consider?

Neil Irwin, a senior economics correspondent for the New York Times thinks it did. Writing in the Times this week, he explored how most of the pain in the sharp slowdown in business investment hit the energy and agricultural sectors.

The impact, he believes, affected the presidential election.
