Top Interior Department attorney joins Dallas oil firm

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s top energy lawyer has left government employment to go to work for Dallas-based Cox Oil Offshore LLC.

Vincent DeVito was Energy Counselor to Zinke but joined Cox Oil where he is an Executive Vice President and General Counsel. He went to work for Zinke in 2017 after being appointed by President Trump.

At the time, Zinke called DeVito “the best of the best in the private sector.”

“Vincent was one of my principle advisers for many Interior energy issues and he helped set the course for energy dominance in the first term of this administration,” said Zinke.

Before he went to work at Interior, DeVito was a Capital partner with an international law practice.

“As we continue to expand our market position within the Gulf of Mexico, it is imperative that Cox Oil have strong legal counsel with a comprehensive knowledge of public policy and experience working with global private and publicly-held companies. Mr. DeVito will help guide us through this next phase of growth,” said Brad E. Cox Chairman of Cox Oil. “We are pleased to welcome Vincent to our team and I am confident his counsel will be an invaluable contribution to our leadership team.”

Cox is a privately-held entity that owns and operates assets in the Gulf of Mexico and was founded by fourth generation oilman, Brad E. Cox. Cox has grown through enhanced development of production and reserves in existing assets along with strategic acquisitions. Cox’s assets are located in both the OCS and the shallow waters off the coast of Louisiana. They currently operate more than 200 producing wells over 25 fields. Cox is based in Dallas, Texas with operation staff in New Orleans, Louisiana.
