OKOGA again takes on Democrat gubernatorial candidate’s tax hike plan

Not only is the Oklahoma Oil and Gas Association against Democrat Drew Edmondson’s calls to increase Oklahoma’s gross production tax, it comes out against his transportation plan.

The group released a statement this week.

“First, Drew Edmondson said he wants to raise the GPT to fund education. Now he says he wants to raise the GPT to fund the Department of Transportation. Does he actually have a plan, or does he just think raising taxes is the answer to any question?” OKOGA President Chad Warmington said. “Oklahoma cannot elect a governor who thinks he can raise revenue once and spend it twice.”

“Edmondson seems to think tax dollars are a resource that never runs out. He needs to remember every dollar taken by the state is a dollar not being used to create jobs or expand economic development,” Warmington said.

Earlier this month, Warmington and OKGA opposed Edmondson’s plan to raise the gross production tax to 7 percent. Click here to read the story on OK Energy Today.
