OKC to get another landfill gas to renewable natural gas project thanks to Republic Services

Republic Services Inc., the second largest waste collection company in the U.S. is set to unveil its latest landfill gas to renewable natural gas project in southeast Oklahoma City.

A grand opening and dedication ceremony will be held Friday, Sept. 21 at 12 p.m. at the landfill located at 2300 SE 69th street in Oklahoma City.

Republic Services and energy partners Aria Energy and BP are behind the project that will capture enough natural gas with the equivalent of heating more than 10,000 homes or removing 1,800 passenger vehicles from the road for one year.

Among those on hand for the private ceremony will be elected Oklahoma City officials as well as the President and CEO of Aria Energy along with global environmental leadership at BP.

Republic Services is considered the second largest provider of non-hazardous solid waste collection, transfer, disposal, recycling and energy services in the country.

It’s been active in recycling, reducing carbon emissions by replacing diesel trucks with compressed natural gas powered trucks, supporting composing and other community projects related to environmental conservation, sustainability and education.
