Drought is dwindling in Oklahoma

Things are not as dry as they once were earlier in the summer in parts of Oklahoma as many oil patch workers will tell you.

Rain fell Friday morning for the third straight morning in western and northern Oklahoma, helping relieve the dry conditions and filling farm ponds where water is used in fracking projects. The Oklahoma Mesonet reports so much rain has fallen so far in August, that 50% of the state has no drought or dry conditions.

The Mesonet reports just under 50% is still “abnormally dry” while 32% is considered to be in a moderate drought.

The driest conditions are in southwestern and southern Oklahoma just southwest of Lawton.  The one percent of the state considered to be in an “exceptional drought” is there. Another 6% is in an extreme drought. More than 18% is in a severe drought.
