Oklahoma wind farm operator expanding to Texas Panhandle

A company that already has 9 wind farms operating in Oklahoma is planning to add another just across the state line in the Texas Panhandle.

Apex Clean Energy, based in Virginia, announced it will build a $1.2 billion dollar wind farm north of Amarillo. It will consist of two projects that will create 400 megawatts of electricity from the wind that sweeps across Moore County where the city is Dumas is the county seat.

Work will start in 2021 and the projects are expected to be finished and the farm operational later in the year. The farm will consist of 260 turbines.

The county is part of the Southwest Power Pool and a subset of the Eastern Interconnection grid which runs through Oklahoma to the Dakotas and to the East coast.

The wind farms operated in Oklahoma by Apex Clean Energy include: Diamond Spring Wind; Grant Plains Wind; Grant Wind; Kay Wind; Kingfisher Wind; North Rim Wind; Balko Wind;  Caddo Wind; and Canadian Hills Wind.
