Oklahoma wind farm contractor signs off on deal in Iowa

Another wind farm project built by EDF Renewables North America, a firm with a construction history in Oklahoma, has been sold. This time, in Iowa where MidAmerican Energy Company has closed on a deal to buy the assets associated with the 91-megawatt Ivester Wind Project.

The project covers nearly 7,000 acres of land in Grundy County about 85 miles northeast of Des Moines, Iowa.

Kate O’Hair, vice president of development for EDF Renewables’ North Region, stated, “We are pleased to once again work with MidAmerican Energy to assist them in meeting their renewable energy goals. This opportunity expands on our long-term business relationship, having partnered on 771 MW of wind facilities in Iowa.”

The transaction contributes to MidAmerican Energy’s 2,000 MW Wind XI project, first announced in April 2016. By year-end 2020, the company expects annual renewable energy generation to reach a level that’s equivalent to more than 90% of annual retail customer usage.

EDF has finished at least two wind projects in Oklahoma. The most recent was last year when it built the Rock Falls Wind Project in Kay and Grant counties northwest of Blackwell and owned by the Blackwell Economic Development Authority.

EDF Renewable Services is operating the wind farm.  It also build the Great Western Wind Project in 2016 which powers the Google data center near Pryor.

The Rock Falls project helps supply power to paper products manufacturer Kimberly-Clark which has a facility in Jenks and produces products for the Kleenex, Scott, Cottonelle and Viva brands.
