Crash of frack sand truck into river leaves driver dead near Yukon

A trucker hauling frack sand was killed early Thursday morning when his tractor-trailer rig crashed on a Canadian County road close to the North Canadian River north of Yukon.

Yukon Police Maj. Mitch Hoskins said the truck left  State Highway 4 which is also known as Piedmont Road. The bridge is located about 2 miles north of Yukon and the crash occurred around 5 a.m. The truck overturned in a ditch next to the river and the driver was dead at the scene.

It took hours for wrecker crews to pull the big rig out of the ditch. Hazmat crews also made sure diesel fuel did not run down the ditch and into the river.

The name of the driver has not been released.
