Company makes it official—no wind farms near Air Force Base at Wichita Falls, Texas

The Canadian company we told you had decided against building two wind farms because the Air Force objected to their location near Sheppard Air Force base in Wichita Falls, Texas now has totally dropped the projects.

Innergex Renewable Energy, the firm headquartered in Quebec has officially removed the proposed wind farms near Byers and Bluegrove in North Texas from the Federal Aviation Administration permitting process.

The move came after the Air Force complained the wind turbines would negatively affect pilot training and radar systems at the air base. The farms would have been about 25 miles from the base and would have provided 300 megawatts of power.

As OK Energy Today reported last month, city leaders and some Texas state legislators are exploring the possibility of creating a law similar to one in Oklahoma where wind farms are barred from locating near military installations with flight operations.
