Busy 4th for state’s run-off candidates

You can bet the politicians involved in runoff races to be decided in August will be out campaigning on July 4th—-riding in a convertible in some parade and waving at thousands of potential voters. That or else attending picnics and sharing a slice of cold watermelon.

Two of the candidates are Republican Leslie Osborn and Cathy Costello, locked in a runoff for the GOP nomination for Labor Commissioner. The June 26 primary saw Costello with 43.26% or 181,657 of the 419,950 votes cast in the election. Osborn, the State Representative from Mustang received 35.92% or 150,847 votes.

A breakdown of the county-by-county voting showed Costello won 56 counties while Osborn won in 20 counties. They tied in Latimer County. Each received 33.67% or 166 out of the total of 493 votes.  The remainder went to Keith Swinton who failed to make the runoff.

Rep. Osborn’s victories were in Adair, Caddo, Canadian, Cotton, Custer, Ellis, Garvin, Grady, Greer, Harmon, Haskell, Hughes, Kiowa, McClain, Noble, Pontotoc, Seminole, Tillman, Washita and Woodward counties.

Costello won big in Oklahoma and Tulsa counties while Osborn picked up strength in more of the rural areas of the state.
