Wheat Harvest Puts More Trucks onto the Highways

Truckers in the oil and gas industry as well as gravel haulers are seeing other big trucks on the highways over the past two weeks as toe 2908 Oklahoma wheat harvest is underway.

Mike Schulte, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission estimates the harvest is already 45 percent finished.

More combines are rolling through fields in western Oklahoma and should soon be munching their way into the northwest and the Panhandle.

The Oklahoma Farm Report says some test cutting has taken place as far north as Shattuck but the wheat remains wet with one sample at 14.9% moisture.

Farmers and custom-cutters still expect a shorter-than-usual wheat crop in Oklahoma because of the disastrous effects of the drought. In many cases, farmers gave up on their wheat fields.
