Western Oklahoma Motorists See Gas Prices Pushing Closer to $3 a Gallon

Gasoline prices are pushing closer and closer to the $3 a gallon level in western Oklahoma according to figures from AAA Oklahoma.

Motorists in and around Arnett located in Ellis County are paying an average of $2.92 a gallon for unleaded regular. Ellis county has the highest average in the state as of June 4 but drivers in Dewey County aren’t far behind as their average is $2.90 a gallon.

The average in Woods county where Alva is the county seat is $2.86 and the average in Kingfisher is $2.84 a gallon.

Oklahoma’s statewide average as of Monday was $2.66, a slight drop from a weekend but still one of the lowest averages in the U.S. It is also the lowest in the region as drivers in Arkansas pay $2.67 on average while those in Missouri see $2.69 on average at the gas pumps.

Drivers in Kansas pay $2.71 an average while those in Colorado see $2.90 an average. New Mexico has the highest average at $2.98 a gallon and the average in Texas is $2.78.

Of the metro areas, Tulsa is cheapest at $2.61 compared to the $2.68 reported one week earlier. Oklahoma City’s average of $2.63 is down 4 cents from a week ago. Lawton still has the lowest prices with an average of $2.57, up one penny from a week earlier.

The national average is $2.95 a gallon as of Monday, June 4.
