A breakdown of the county voting in this week’s primary election in the race for the Republican nomination for Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner shows a steep road ahead for former Senate President pro tempore Brian Bingman.
He won only 16 of the state’s 77 counties. Anthony won in 61 counties. While Bingman easily won his home Creek County with a margin of 57% to 31% for incumbent Commissioner Bob Anthony, Bingman failed to win adjacent Tulsa County. Tulsa county has the second largest population in the state but voters went to Commissioner Anthony who picked up nearly 47% compared to Bingman’s 41%.
Anthony received 34,516 votes in Tulsa County while Bingman got 30,612 votes. Most of Bingman’s victories were in eastern Oklahoma counties.
The 16 were Adair, Caddo, Craig, Creek, Delaware, Harmon, Haskill, Kay, Latimer, McIntosh, Mayes, Nowata, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Osage and Pittsburg.
The few exceptions were Caddo and Harmon counties in the southwest and Kay county in the north central part of the state.
