Storms Leave Trail of Damage in Oklahoma and Kansas

(Eastman Hotel before it was damaged)

An oil tank battery was a victim of the Tuesday night severe weather that produced tornadoes and baseball sized hail in western and northern Oklahoma.

The tank battery was set afire apparently from a lightning strike near the northwestern town of Freedom but no injuries were reported.

A tornado warning was issued in Woods county and heavy damage was reported in Waynoka where the Eastman Hotel was badly damaged. No homes were destroyed and there were no injuries.

A tornado warning was issued Tuesday night near Eric and Sayre along I-40 in western Oklahoma. No damage was reported but hail the size of baseballs fell and no doubt there is damage to the wheat crop. The wheat harvest was just getting underway in western Oklahoma.

Severe weather made its way up to southwest Kansas where a tornado was reported near Dodge City, but again, no damage was reported. Heavy flooding was reported in the northwest part of Kansas and bridges and highways were damaged and closed. Part of highway U.S. 24 near Nicodemus in Graham County was closed and flooding of the Saline River forced the shutdown of highway U.S. 183 in western Kansas.
