State Orders Another Reduction in Disposal Well Operations in Northern Oklahoma

More action has been taken by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission in a move to reduce earthquake activity around the towns of Covington and Douglas in northern Oklahoma.

On Tuesday, the Commmission issued a directive for further reductions in the oiland gas wastewater disposal well volumes.

Under the directive from the Commission’s Oil and Gas Conservation Division, all average daily volumes of Arbuckle disposal wells within ten miles of the earthquake activity will be reduced another 20 percent.

The OCC also asked the well operators to reduce their depth to avoid injecting too close to the basemen rock and to also verify the well’s bottom hole plug integrity.

Twenty-three wells are affected by the directive. The state indicated the total daily average reduction is 11,226 barrels a day on top of the past directives that reduced volumes.
