Rig Counts Are up in U.S. and in Oklahoma

Rig counts jumped 13 nationwide in the past week while Oklahoma’s count was up three according to figures from Baker Hughes Co. and the Independent Oil and Gas Service’s Redtop Rig Report.

Oklahoma’s count grew to 138.  Nationally, the count is up to 1,045 with ten more oil and 3 more gas rigs in the past week.  The oil rig count is up to 844 while the number of gas rigs is 199.

The U.S. rig count is 160 more than a year ago when there were 885 active rigs.  The count in Canada in the past week fell by 7 to 79.

Of the oil plays, the Granite Wash in  Oklahoma grew by 2 to reach 13 while the Mississipian added one to hit 5. The giant Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico is up to 463, 5 more than a week ago.

The Haynesville in east Texas is steady at 54 while the Eagle Ford in south Texas grew by 2 to hit 78. The Woodfords in Oklahoma remained at eleven while Colorado’s DJ Niobrara added two to total 24.

How does Oklahoma’s rig count compared with other oil-producinng states?  Texas leads all with 523, up 8 over the past week. Colorado added 3 to reach 30 while Louisiana’s count grew by one to hit 62. In Kansas, the count slipped by one to 42. New Mexico dropped 4 rigs to reach 89. North Dakota remained at 56.
