Rig Count Soared Nationally and Edged Upward in Oklahoma

The number of oil and gas rigs working in Oklahoma and the rest of the country saw no letup in increased activity over the past week. Oklahoma’s count rose by 2 to reach 140 rigs while the national count jumped 13 to hit 1,059.

The national count increased an increase of 15 more oil rigs to reach a total of 859 while the number of active gas rigs slipped by 2 to reach 198.

The national count is also increase of 151 from a year ago when  the nationwide rig count was 908.  Over the past year, the oil rig count grew by 137 while the gas rig numbers increased by 13.

Oklahoma’s count of 140 rigs compares to the 534 in Texas where there was an increase of 9 working rigs over the past week. Colorado’s count grew by 2 to reach 31 while the count in  Kansas fell by 5 to hit 36. Louisiana had 60 active rigs, a drop of one. New Mexico’s count slipped one to reach 91.

North Dakota saw an increase of one to reach 56.

Of the various oil plays, the Permian saw a boost of eleven rigs to reach 478. The Granite Wash in  Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle remained at 14 while the Mississippian grew by one to reach 5.

The Eagle Ford in  South Texas added one to reach 78 while the Woodfords in Oklahoma also grew by one to hit a dozen working rigs. Colorado’s D-J Niobrara added one to reach 25.
