Rep. Mullin Focuses on Opioids and Nuclear Waste

The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee recently voted to send two bills by Oklahoma Congressman Markwayne Mullin to the floor of the house.

Both focus on the opioid crisis.

House Resolution 3528 is the Every Prescription Conveyed Securely Act which will require e-prescribing for prescription drugs recognized as  controlled substances under the Medicare Part D program.  The full committee passed Rep. Mullin’s bill on a voice vote.

Another measure, H.R. 5554, the Animal drug and Animal Generic Drug User Fee Amendments of 2018 will amend the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. It will reauthorize user fee programs relating to new animal drugs and generic new animal drugs. It too was passed on a voice vote.

The measures were among 32 bills sent to the House and 25 were part of fighting the opioid crisis.

The Republican Representative also helped past H.R. 3053, the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 2018. The measure focuses on the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste site and will allow the formal licensing process to determine if the repository can be licensed and constructed.

Rep. Mullin voted for the measure which seeks to resolve the issue of spent nuclear fuel that sits idle in 121 communities across 39 states. He says electricity ratepayers have paid more than $40 billion to the Department of Energy to site, study, construct and operate a permanent repository yet the material remains scattered across the country.
