No takers so far, but oilman T. Boone Pickens still has his 65,000 Texas Panhandle ranch and estate up for sale.
After turning 90 this month and suffering several strokes, the noted energy leader is pushing ahead with the sale of Mesa Vista Ranch, a 65,000 acre spread near Pampa that he developed over the past 47 years.
Texas Monthly did a spread on the ranch and an interview with the Oklahoma native known for his love Oklahoma State University and his millions in contributions to the school. It reported only a “few nibbles” for the ranch that has a $250 million asking price.
“I’m clearly in the fourth quarter, and time is not my friend,” said Pickens. “I have to accept and even embrace my mortality.”
As the magazine noted, “He knows selling the ranch is the right thing to do, especially if he wants to preserve a viable conservation and wildlife management effort.”
His ailments are growing. He often needs a walker and help getting in and out of a car. His vision has deteriorated.
