Eagle Ford Rattled by Small Earthquakes

Southern Texas has been rumbling this week with small earthquakes.

They’ve occurred in the Eagle Ford oil play and south of San Antonio. The strongest measured 3.4 magnitude.

The quakes were in the strongest oil-producing county in the Eagle Ford.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the quakes near Poth and Runge on Tuesday.  Some residents in San Antonio claimed to have felt them.

“There are small fault lines that aren’t on the map in the United States, including Texas,” explained geophysicist Julie Dutton with the geological survey. “When there is a lot of stress in an area, the earth releases that stress through earthquakes.”
