Oklahoma’s Oil and Gas Rig Count Increased in Past Week

Oklahoma added 6 more rigs in the past week to reach 133 exploring for oil and gas while the nation added 8 to reach 1,021 working rigs.

The national count included 5 more oil rigs to reach a total of 825 while the number of gas rigs grew by 3 to hit 195. Over the past year, the rig count rose 151 including 128 more oil rigs and 24 more gas rigs.

The U.S. count compares to 85 working rigs in Canada, a drop of 8 in the past week.

Oklahoma’s count of 133 compares to 513 in Texas where there was an increase of four rigs in the past week. Kansas saw an increase of two to hit 40. Louisiana’s count went up by two to hit 60. The county in New Mexico slipped by 3 to 87. Colorado’s count fell by one to reach 28 working rigs.

Of the oil plays in and around Oklahoma, the count in the Woodfords went up by two to hit eleven. The Granite Wash remained at eleven and the count in the Mississippian remained at four. The Permian Basin county in west Texas and southeastern New Mexico slipped by one to hit 452. The Eagle Ford in South Texas dropped by one to 75.
