Ardmore Firm Wins Nearly $2.5 million in Energy Department Grants

An Oklahoma firm is among those receiving some of $99 million in grants announced recently by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Amethyst Research Inc. of Ardmore received two separate grants out of the 82 awarded to 69 small businesses in 26 states.

The largest totaled $1,499,998 under the description of “Resonant Cavity Light Emitting Diodes for Infrared Gas Spectroscopy.”  The second grant awarded Amethyst Research totaled $999,998 and was for “Development of a Novel Infrared Detector for Improved CO2 Subsurface Sequestration Monitoring.”

The company website indicated its commercial services and product offerings were built “through years of dedicated research for the Department of Defense.”

The grants were funded through the Energy Department’s Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs.

New Mexico had a $1 million grant awarded to Electrodynamic of Albuquerque.  Four grants were made to Colorado firms: $1.4 million to SPEC Inc; $1 million to Radi Soft LLC; $1 million to Tech-X corporation; and $1 million to Kapteyn-Murnance Laboratories Inc.  All are located in Boulder.

Two Texas firms won grants too including $1.5 million to Cyentech Consulting of Cypress and $613,000 to Applied Nanotech of Austin.
