OIPA President Busted on Drunk Driving Charges in OKC

The President of the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association landed in the Oklahoma City jail this week following his arrest on drunk driving related charges.

Police arrested Tim Wigley, 55 Tuesday night after receiving a report of a possible drunk driver leaving the parking lot of the Garage Restaurant near downtown Oklahoma City.

The arresting officer reported observing a car driven by Wigley enter the middle of an intersection after a red light. The officer attempted to stop the car and the driver failed to stop until he encountered other cars at a stop light.

As News 9 in Oklahoma City reported:

The officer said he immediately noticed that Wigley had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

Wigley was asked to exit his vehicle and was reportedly unsteady on his feet. After refusing to take a breath test Wigley was placed under arrest.

Officials reported that Wigley displayed aggressive behavior towards the arresting officer and became physically uncooperative.

In a second altercation the officer received a laceration to his hand, according to the incident report.

Wigley was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on one complaint of driving under the influence, and one complaint of disregarding a traffic control device.

Wigley became President of the oil and gas industry group in 2017 after the retirement of OIPA President Mike Terry. The association is the state’s largest oil and natural gas advocacy group.

He returned to Oklahoma to join the OIPA in 2016 as Executive Vice President following a five-year term as president of the Western Energy Alliance.  Wigley previously managed the Washington, D.C. operations for PAC/WEST and also was president of the Oregon Forest Industries council.
