Rig Counts Slip in Oklahoma and U.S.

Oil and gas rig counts in Oklahoma and across the U.S. fell in the past week. Oklahoma’s count dropped by two to reach 118 while the national count slipped by 5 to reach 924.

Counts provided by Baker Hughes and the Independent Oil and Gas Service showed the number of oil rigs dropped by 5 to 742 while the number of gas rigs remained steady at 182. The U.S. count is still 259 higher than the 665 active rigs reported one year ago.

In Canada, the rig count jumped 38 to reach 174.

Texas added one rig to its statewide count to reach 454 while Kansas added 6 and hit 37. Colorado remained at 34 while Louisiana lost six to drop to 56.

New Mexico added one to hit 76. North Dakota’s count slipped by one to hit 45.

Of the oil plays, the giant Permian Basin added two and hit 400. The Mississippian in Oklahoma stayed at 3 rigs. The Granite Wash remained at 12. The Eagle Ford in south Texas was steady at 70. The Woodfords in Oklahoma also remained steady at 9.
