Rig Counts Grow in Oklahoma and U.S.

The latest rig counts in  Oklahoma and across the U.S. showed growth in the past week. Oklahoma’s count of oil and gas rigs grew by 3 to reach 121 while the national count was up 15 to 939.

In the past week, the U.S. oil rig count grew by 10 to reach 752 while the number of gas rigs grew by 5 to hit 187 according to Baker Hughes Co. of Houston. Over the past year, the total number of oil and gas rigs was up 280 from 659.

Canada’s rig count in the past week swelled 102 to reach 276.

Oklahoma’s rig count of 121 compares to the 452 in Texas. The count in the Lone Star state dropped by 2 from a week ago. Kansas dropped two to reach 35 drilling rigs according to the Independent Oil and Gas Association while Colorado added 2 to reach 36.

Louisiana added 5 to hit 61. New Mexico also added 5 to attain a count of 81. North Dakota remained at 45 from a week ago.

Of the oil plays, the Permian remains the largest with 403 rigs, 3 more than a week ago. The Granite Wash in Oklahoma remained at 12 while the Mississippian added one to reach 4. The Woodfords in Oklahoma added one rig to hit 10.

The Eagle Ford in south Texas remained at 70.
