Rig Count Remains Steady in Oklahoma But Drops Nationwide

Oklahoma’s oil and gas drilling rig count at 121 in the past week while the national rig count fell by 3 to reach 936.

Baker Hughes Co. and the Red Top Rig Report based in Wichita, Kansas reported new figures. Nationally, the number of oil rigs fell by 5 to reach 747 while the number of gas rigs grew by 2 to hit 189.

But the U.S. rig count is still 242 more than last year’s count of 694 at this time. In the past year, the national count added 196 oil rigs and 47 more gas rigs.

In the past week, Canada added 49 more rigs to hit 325.

While Oklahoma remained steady at 121, Texas added one to reach 453. Colorado dropped by 4 to reach 32 while Louisiana added one to hit 62. The count in New Mexico grew by one and reached 82. North Dakota’s count fell by one and dropped to 44. The count in Kansas dropped by 3 to reach 32.

Of the oil plays, the Permian  Basin remains the most active with an increase of 6 rigs to hit 409. The Woodfords in Oklahoma remain at 10, twice what were reported one year ago.

The Eagle Ford in  south Texas dropped 3 to reach 62, while the Granite Wash in northwest Oklahoma dropped one and hit eleven.

The Mississippian in Oklahoma remained at four.
