Opponents Predict Keystone XL Pipeline Will Never be Built

One of the groups fighting the Keystone XL pipeline in Nebraska is making a bold prediction.

“This pipeline will never be built,” declared Bold Nebraska as it updated Keystone opponents.

“After TransCanada last week announced shockingly weak support from customers looking to transport tarsands on its proposed Keystone XL pipeline, it has become more clear than ever that this pipeline is not needed, and will never be built,” wrote Jane Kleeb, founder of the group in an email notice this week.

“The company could only secure commitments for 500,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) for KXL, which has a capacity of 830,000 bpd — and that’s only after the Canadian government gave TransCanada a giant gift subsidy to “boost the numbers.”

Kleep said TransCanada’s still unannounced decision whether to move forward with the project is a testament to the unlikely alliance standing strong in opposition.

Her organization and landowners in Nebraska filed a legal challenge to thee Public Service Commission’s approval of the Mainline Alternative” route for the pipeline.

Oral arguments in the court case challenging the line aren’t expected to be heard until late this year.
