Santa Fe Expands CNG Bus Fleet

Another city is expanding its fleet of CNG vehicles.  Santa Fe, New Mexico has awarded a $3 million contract to Clean Energy Fuels Corp. of California to design, build and operate the new compressed natural gas fueling station to serve public and private customers.

The station will primarily be used for Santa Fe’s transit and refuse fleets. The unique station design will include fast-fill dispensers for Santa Fe Trails, the city’s transit agency as well as time-fill dispensers installed nearby at the city’s Environmental Services Division for its refuse fleet.

The station is expected to fuel 67 CNG transit, para-transit and refuse vehicles according to the announcement. Santa Fe anticipates increasing the size of its CNG fleet over the next 5 years.

The contract with Clean Energy will run for 8 years beginning with the opening of the station scheduled for 2018.
