Report Shows Economy Continues Growing in Oklahoma and Other Midwestern States

The latest Mid-America Business Conditions Index covering Oklahoma and 8 other Midwest and Plains states indicated a slight drop in business conditions for the month of November.

But Creighton University economist Ernie Goss says it still suggests that  regional economic conditions continue to improve.

He calls it a “Goldilocks” economy….not too bad and not overly good.

The index slipped from 58.8 in October to 57.2 in November. It had been at 58.2 in September. However, it was also the 12th straight month of being above the 50 plateau, a score that suggests growth. His survey results of supply managers are compiled into a collection of indexes ranging from zero to 100 and anything above 50 is a sign of a growing economy.

This month, there was no mention of the energy sector in the report. But Goss says if anything is dragging the economic recovery down, it is the agriculture sector.

The 8 other states covered by the Business Conditions Index are Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
