The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments is preparing for driver-less cars…..those known as “autonomous vehicles.”
It plans a Dec. 4 workshop in Oklahoma City entitled “Driving Toward the Future: Preparing Central Oklahoma for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles.”
In announcing the workshop, ACOG said it has been planning for and responding to evolving vehicle technologies.
“Autonomous and connected vehicles will likely have significant implications for regional transportation infrastructure, mobility, public safety, congestion and air quality,” said ACOG.
The Association indicated the technologies will bring new challenges and investment requirements for communities. The workshop will over the potential impact of the vehicles on transportation infrastructure, public safety, personal and freight travel, economic development, land use, mobility and quality of life and privacy and security.
One of the challenges will be new legislation to allow the autonomous vehicles in Oklahoma. Only 21 states have passed legislation allowing the vehicles.
They are: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Virginia. Washington D.C. also passed such legislation.
