Worker Still Missing After Oil Rig Blast in Louisiana

A worker remains missing following the Sunday night explosion at an offshore rig in Louisiana.

The employee was identified as Timothy Morrison, 44 of Katy, Texas. The accident at an oil platform in Lake Pontchartrain injured seven others. The cause remains under investigation.

The blast happened at the rig operated by Clovelly Oil Co. The Coast Guard responded immediately but eventually called off the search Monday night for the missing worker.

Five of the seven surviving workers were said to be in critical condition after being taken to the University Medical Center.  Mike Guillot, director of East Jefferson Emergency Medical Services reported they had suffered “blast type injuries and burns.”

The Coast Guard also indicated it did not find any pollution as a result of the rig explosion. Louisiana state officials were probing the incident and it’s believed the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also on the scene.
