EPA and DEQ to Update Public About Wilcox Superfund Site in Bristow

A public meeting is planned for next month in Bristow concerning the EPA’s Superfund Site at the former Wilcox Oil Company refinery.

The EPA along with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality will hold the community meeting.  Officials of both agencies will be on hand to answer questions regarding cleanup with the site was added to the National Priorities List in December of 2013.

The site covers an estimated 150 acres was formerly the Lorraine/Wilcox Refinery. It was used by two different refineries with overlapping boundaries between 1915 and 1965. There are remnants of former oil refining operations and tank farms.

The meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bristow Library located at 111 West 7th Avenue. It will be a come-and-go event and the public will have the chance to talk with agency representatives.
