Energy Secretary Pushes for Faster Approval of Oil and Gas Pipelines

Saying the Permian Basin is an example of pipeline challenges, Energy Secretary Rick Perry is pushing for more and faster construction of oil and gas pipelines in the U.S.

He wants to streamline the approval process, hoping new lines will help the flow of oil out of the west Texas oil play.

It’s a critical piece of his agenda according to Dan Brouillette, Energy Department Deputy Secretary.

“There’s simply no way our existing infrastructure can handle this surge in the supply over the long haul,” said Brouillette. “We must build more, and we must maintain and upgrade our existing infrastructure.”

Perry wants the National Petroleum Council to begin a study to evaluate the nation’s infrastructure. The council is an oil and gas industry advisory board.
