Ardmore Airport to Get Control Tower

The city of Ardmore is moving ahead with plans to construct a Federal Aviation Administration-approved control tower at the Municipal Airport.

The Mayor and City Commissioners approved an agreement this week between Ardmore and the Ardmore Development Authority according to the Ardmoreite.

City Manager J.D. Spohn told commissioners the lack of a control tower has been a challenge to those who are considered tenants at the airport.

“For example, the military can’t land their flights there without an operational control tower,” he explained. “We want to correct that and get business back to normal.”

Spohn said the Ardmore Development Authority and the city are working to fix the problem as fast as possible.

The FAA will be an official sponsor for funding of the project.
