$2 Million Grant Awarded to OKC Airport Trust for WRWA Hangar Improvements

The Oklahoma City Airport Trust was recently awarded a $2 million public works grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, according to the bureau’s website.

Governor Mary Fallin was present during the grant announcement. The airport trust believes this opportunity to complete the improvements will attract commercial aviation and additional defense industry to Oklahoma City. The EDA estimates that the investment will save nearly 1,067 jobs in Oklahoma.

The grant will fund the expansion and improvement to hangars located at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. The investment will help improve two existing hangars to enable the capacity to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul to larger aircraft.

When completed, the project will support job retention, advance the aviation industry in the region and improve economic development.

“We learned from the recent Oklahoma Aviation & Aerospace Economic Impact Study that this industry has grown 250 percent in the past 20 years,” said Governor Fallin. “The renovations made possible by this grant will help Oklahoma maintain its place as an industry leader that continues to attract aerospace companies and talent for years to come.”

Requests for proposals on the project is anticipated during the first quarter of 2018.
