Among several energy companies calling on the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate greenhouse gases instead of doing away with the Clean Power Plan is one with Oklahoma operations.
Excel Energy Inc. is a member of the Coalition for Innovative Climate Solutions, a group that met this week with EPA officials to talk about how the agency could replace the rule. The group leaders also met last week with the White House Office of Management and Budget.
The Coalition represents electric companies and service producers in 19 states. Excel Energy no longer has retail customers in Oklahoma but owns nearly 210 miles of 345 kilovolt and 115 kV transmission lines and facilities in the state.
The Coalition’s request comes after the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers made similar requests in July, indicating they support development of a more limited regulatory approach by the EPA.
The Clean Power Plan was challenged by Scott Pruitt when he was Oklahoma Attorney General before being confirmed as the new Administrator of the EPA.
