Company Hopes to Win Power Line Approval in Missouri

In Missouri, where regulators have rejected at least two major high-voltage power lines, one of the companies plans to try again.

Ameren , the largest power provider in Missouri announced this week it will make a second attempt at winning approval for a proposed 100-mile line in northern Missouri. The company altered the route and won approval from several counties in northeastern Missouri and now plans to go ahead before the Missouri Public Service Commission.

In April 2016, the PSC gave conditional approval to the line but only if Ameren won approval from local counties to locate the line across roads. A state appeals court ruled against the deal stating that the company first had to get county approvals before the state could approve anything.

Because of the court ruling, the Commission also rejected a massive wind-energy project by Clean Line Energy Partners which proposed a power line from Kansas across Missouri and points east.

Ameren, with more than 8,500 employees provides power for 2.4 million electric customers in Missouri and Illinois. The company is based in Collinsville, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri.
