Bridenstine Humbled Over NASA Administrator Nomination

Don’t expect to hear much from Oklahoma Congressman Jim Bridenstine in the coming weeks or months regarding his nomination to become next head of NASA.

That’s because Rep. Bridenstine’s office, in an email notice this week indicated, “The Congressman will not be accepting interview requests prior to the conclusion of the confirmation process.”

If we hear anything from the Republican congressman, it will only be through his released statements. Otherwise, Bridenstine issued a brief statement saying it is an honor to be nominated to serve as NASA Administrator.

“I am humbled by this opportunity and I think President Donald trump and Vice President Mike Pence for their confidence. Should I be confirmed by the United States Senate, I will work with all diligence to achieve the President’s vision for America’s leadership in space.”

To date, the Senate has not scheduled any confirmation hearing. But expect it to be challenging because of opposition to the appointment by Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson. They contend he has no experience and the President is simply rewarding Bridenstine with a political payoff for supporting him in the presidential campaign last year.

Bridenstine spent nine years as a U.S. Navy pilot on active duty then four years in Navy Reserve where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He switched to the Oklahoma Air National Guard in 2015 and was elected to Congress in 2012.

Rep. Bridenstine also serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee.
