Plains Intends to Replace Pipeline Over 2015 Leak in California

Troubled with a 2015 crude oil pipeline leak in California, Houston’s Plains All American Pipeline, a company with operations in Oklahoma has announced plans to replace the line that spilled 142,000 gallons of oil.

It’s known as the Refugio Oil Spill and Plains has submitted an application with the Santa Barbara County Energy Division to replace Line 901, the one spanning from Las Flores Canyon to the Sisquoc pump station. Ever since the line was emptied and filled with inert gas, production has come to a stop at seven oil platforms off the Santa Barbara coast according to the Santa Barbara Independent.

The replacement line would be smaller than the existing 24-inch 901 pipeline. However, it would also be thicker than required and made of a higher grade steel.
